If you are receiving a message stating that your detected BIOS is older than recommended, or an error mentioning Intel 13th or 14th generation processor update requirements when launching Overwatch, here are a few methods to resolve the issue.
Method 1: Lower the Maximum Processor State
- Press the Windows Key, search for Control Panel, and open it.
- Navigate to Hardware and Sound > Power Options.
- Click Change plan settings next to your active power plan.
- Select Change advanced power settings.
- Scroll down and expand Processor power management.
- Expand Maximum processor state.
- Change both On battery and Plugged in settings from 100% down to 95% or 90%.
- Apply and save the changes.
Method 2: Underclock P-Cores using Intel Extreme Tuning Utility (XTU)
- Download and install the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility (XTU) from Intel's official website.
- Launch the application and locate the Performance Core Ratio (P-Core Ratio).
- Reduce the multiplier value by 1x or 2x (for example, lower a 53x multiplier down to 52x or 51x).
- Apply the settings.
- Configure XTU to run automatically on Windows startup so the modified ratio persists.
Method 3: Update GPU Drivers
- Nvidia Users: Open GeForce Experience (or download it from Nvidia's official site), log in, navigate to the Drivers tab, and click Download to install the latest driver.
- AMD Users: Go to AMD's official support website, download the driver installer/AMD Software, and follow the prompts to complete the update.
