Overview
If your Canon LBP2900B printer isn't printing on Windows 10 or 11, you are likely dealing with a driver conflict. The LBP2900B relies on Canon's specific CAPT (Canon Advanced Printing Technology) architecture, which requires the proper driver for system communication.
Crucial Pre-Installation Step: Disconnect the printer's USB cable from your PC before starting the installation. Do not plug it back in until the installer explicitly prompts you. Reconnecting too early may cause Windows to assign a generic driver, resulting in a "USB not recognized" error.
Method 1: Download and Install via Canon's Official Site
- Visit the official Canon website and navigate to the LBP2900B driver support section.
- Select your Windows operating system version (e.g., Windows 10 or Windows 11) from the system dropdown.
- Click Download to get the installer setup file.
- Open the downloaded file and follow the on-screen prompts.
- Connect the printer cable when instructed, then restart your computer.
Method 2: Check Windows Update
- Press
Win + I on your keyboard to open Settings.
- Navigate to Windows Update and click Check for updates.
- Allow Windows to scan for and install any detected driver updates for your printer.
- Restart your PC after installation.
Note: If Windows Update does not find a compatible driver, download the driver manually using Canon's website or try Compatibility Mode.
Method 3: Install Using Compatibility Mode
If the setup file will not execute or install properly on newer operating systems:
- Download the driver setup file from Canon's official page.
- Right-click the downloaded setup file in your Downloads folder and choose Properties.
- Go to the Compatibility tab.
- Check the box for Run this program in compatibility mode for: and choose an older version of Windows (such as Windows 7 or Windows 8).
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Run the driver installer, follow the setup instructions, and restart your PC.
